Throughout my life, I experienced struggles with eczema. No matter how much Vaseline or Aquaphor I applied to the spots, it seemed as though my eczema would fight back and re-appear once in a while. To those that may be unfamiliar with what eczema is, eczema is a skin condition known as an atopic dermatitis that is recognized by a patchy rash on the skin that is red, dry, and often itchy. Initially, I assumed I was receiving allergic reactions to the lotion I typically used due to my sensitivity to fragrance. However, no matter what moisturizer I used, whether it be tailored for sensitive skin, Vaseline, or Aquaphor, my eczema never seemed to go away for good.
Annoyed with the itchy red patches on my skin, I researched different brands and products people recommended to use that claimed to cure your eczema for good. However, none of the products worked in the long run. Through my research, however, I discovered that people with melanated skin are more prone to eczema. Given that Black and People of Color are more prone to experiencing eczema, I made sure to research Black-owned skincare brands that specifically are catered to tackling these issues. One day as I scrolled through Tik Tok, I came across a bunch of videos of this new brand called Topicals and watched as everyone raved about how life changing their products have been in terms of turning around their skin for the good. Come to find out, Topicals is also Black-owned! Excited and intrigued given all the positive reviews of the brand, I immediately ran to my local Sephora and grabbed their products off the shelf. Though to some, their products may be relatively expensive in comparison to others, I genuinely believe that Topicals products are worth every penny as they have truly helped me say bye bye to my eczema.
