Skincare and self-care have become newfound forms of therapy for me. In high school, I suffered from bad acne and resorted to makeup to try to cover up my acne blemishes, yet failed to realize that makeup was only making it worse. My acne caused me to be very self-conscious of my image and imperfections, and I would often wear hats and hoodies to try to shy away attention from my blemishes. I remember watching YouTube videos for hours on end trying every product my favorite Black beauty influencers were using yet nothing was working. It wasn’t until I took the time to truly learn my skin and about the best-of-the-best skincare products that I developed a deep love and passion for skincare and started to take my skincare routine more seriously.
It is important to note that not everyone has the same skin type. Skin types vary as some may have what is described as normal skin types, which do not limit the type of products these individuals can use. Others may have more oily skin types, where their skin actively produces and extracts oils, causing their skin to appear shinier in certain areas on their face, most commonly within their T-Zone which includes the forehead, around the nose, lips, and chin. Additionally, some individuals have what is referred to as combination skin types, which, as the name suggests, is a combination of normal and oily skin types. As the season’s change, so does my skin, which ultimately means changes within my skincare products and routine as the new season approaches. However, through lots of research, monitoring my skin types and conditions, as well as through lots of trial and error, I have finally discovered my go-to skincare routine and list of product holy grails that have allowed me to completely clear up all of my acne and acne scarring and have helped me to achieve my healthy, glowing, hydrated, and clear skin.
